Present in the Lakewood community for over 30 years, the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation traces its beginnings to the merger of two great community organizations, the Lakewood Public Schools Foundation and the Lakewood Alumni Association. Formerly the Lakewood Alumni Foundation, our name was updated to the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation to best reflect the mission and vision of the organization as it functions today.
Our mission is to serve both current students in the Lakewood City Schools as well as our thousands of Lakewood Alumni.
LREF serves current students in the Lakewood City Schools by providing educational enrichment opportunities that enhance excellence in learning, and elevate the quality of each and every student's education, at the elementary, middle or high school levels. LREF endeavors to provide the opportunities that we have come to expect for our children as part of a well-rounded education but which the local school district and the state can no longer include in their budgets. LREF raises and distributes funds for a full-time college counselor at LHS, academics, athletics and music - including an instrument rent to own program and scholarships for lessons, provides college scholarships for graduating seniors, awards teacher grants for innovative classroom projects and assists families in need with fees associated with participation in sports, the arts and other co-curricular activities.
LREF serves Lakewood Alumni by serving as a touchstone to the current school community, an information clearing house for classmates and a facilitator for reunions.
The LREF vision is to insure that each and every student in the Lakewood City Schools has opportunities to experience the most innovative academics, arts and athletics and other enrichment experiences in and out of the classroom. We are committed to contributing to the excellence in public education that has been and continues to be the hallmark of the Lakewood Public Schools. We believe that a world class education is founded on providing such opportunities within a diverse and vibrant school population. Students who receive opportunities and enrichment during their primary and secondary education leave the Lakewood Schools prepared for college and beyond, become committed alumni who remember their Lakewood school experience fondly and remain engaged with our school community.
